On December 5, 2007, as reported in the headlines of the Chicago Tribune Metro section, two ex-city health inspectors were indicted on mail fraud charges. According to the Tribune article, the two former health inspectors, one of whom is represented by Meyer & O’Connor, LLC, were charged with accepting payoffs to falsely certify that certain individuals had taken a required sanitation course and passed a state examination. However, and as quoted in the Tribune article, John Meyer asserted that there was no jurisdiction for filing these charges in federal court and predicted that the charges against the firm’s client would ultimately be dismissed.
